Draft Grade — Bears
Overall A-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesA+ FutureA+
The Bears won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: A-.

When the story of this class is written, it opens with Jared Wiley at the 134th overall pick, a reach of 71 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The Wiley pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, cornerback and other spots still on the board.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The Bears paired the rookies with proven help, Chase Young leading the way.

Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the 9th overall pick they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
Pick12 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick29 Rnd1 Xavier Legette
In pick No. 29 they get a home-run threat at receiver.
Pick35 Rnd2 Kamren Kinchens
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kamren Kinchens. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick36 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
They went early on Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick 36, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick46 Rnd2 Graham Barton
They took Graham Barton at par in slot 46, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick74 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in the 74th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick75 Rnd3 Marshawn Kneeland
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Marshawn Kneeland well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick76 Rnd3 Darius Robinson
They talked themselves into Darius Robinson at the Round 3 slot, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick131 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
The board had cheaper options than Ben Sinnott at pick No. 131, and it noticed. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick132 Rnd4 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III in slot 132 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick133 Rnd4 Braelon Allen
They reached into another round for Braelon Allen, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick134 Rnd4 Jared Wiley
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jared Wiley adds a tight end and leaves interior defensive lineman, cornerback and other spots untouched.
