Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B-
ValueA- NeedB TradesC- FutureB-
The Chiefs let Little Jr. fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

Call it larceny. Earl Little Jr. sat on the board until pick No. 191, and the Chiefs did not need to be asked twice. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

The cost of the Green reach is exactly the players who went right after him. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Trey'Dez Green
In slot 32 they get a seam-stretching tight end, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick48 Rnd2 Will Echoles
They will replay Will Echoles at the 48th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick83 Rnd3 Kade Pieper
Steal is underselling it; Kade Pieper at pick 83 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick95 Rnd3 Lance Heard
They let Lance Heard come to them and pounced at pick No. 95. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick96 Rnd3 Chris Peal
Chris Peal slipping to No. 96 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick169 Rnd5 AJ Green
A big swing on AJ Green at the Round 5 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick191 Rnd6 Earl Little Jr.
They barely believed it either: Earl Little Jr. still on the board at Round 6, Pick 12. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick209 Rnd6 Jayden Bellamy
They robbed the room for Jayden Bellamy here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick218 Rnd6 Isaiah Sategna III
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 218 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick232 Rnd7 Gunner Stockton
Gunner Stockton at the Round 7 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick256 Rnd7 Donovan Jones
Donovan Jones slid further than he should have, and pick 256 is lovely value for the cornerback. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
