Allen should have been long gone. The Rams pounced, and earned a B. The Rams spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: LeQuint Allen, the No. 137 name on the board, in slot 175. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want. If Reid pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick Analysis
Pick52
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in Round 2, Pick 20 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Pick90
Rnd3
Barrett Carter
A slide stopped in the 90th pick, with Barrett Carter worth more than the price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick101
Rnd3
Charles Grant
Charles Grant is a better player than No. 101 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick127
Rnd4
Tai Felton
You do not let a wide receiver like Tai Felton reach pick 127 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick137
Rnd4
Nohl Williams
Nohl Williams at the Round 4 slot is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick172
Rnd5
Quincy Riley
They took Quincy Riley at par in slot 172, which is nothing to complain about. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick175
Rnd5
LeQuint Allen
They will replay LeQuint Allen at pick No. 175 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick190
Rnd6
Ajani Cornelius
A tidy bit of business in the 190th overall pick, where Ajani Cornelius graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick195
Rnd6
Que Robinson
Que Robinson at pick No. 195 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. The roster fit checks out.
Pick201
Rnd6
Karene Reid
Karene Reid at the 201st pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick202
Rnd6
Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser at pick 202 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
