FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Texans: B-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Texans did exactly that with J. Michael Sturdivant in the 165th overall pick. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Igbinosun pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick38
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
Emmanuel Pregnon in Round 2, Pick 6 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick52
Rnd2
Gennings Dunker
They paid sticker price for Gennings Dunker in the 52nd overall pick, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick59
Rnd2
Connor Lew
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Connor Lew. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick69
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
They jumped the gun on Zakee Wheatley, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick94
Rnd3
Darrell Jackson Jr.
They let Darrell Jackson Jr. come to them and pounced at No. 94. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick120
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
A conviction pick on DeMonte Capehart at pick No. 120 that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick128
Rnd4
Lander Barton
They left a pile of value on the table to take Lander Barton this early at the 128th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick129
Rnd4
Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss is a better player than pick No. 129 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick163
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Davison Igbinosun at slot 163. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick165
Rnd5
J. Michael Sturdivant
They talked themselves into J. Michael Sturdivant at Round 5, Pick 27, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick239
Rnd7
Micah Morris
Micah Morris at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick241
Rnd7
Noah Thomas
Noah Thomas at the 241st pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
