Grand theft in the 129th overall pick: the Commanders steal Henderson and grade out a B. You could see the war room lean forward. TreVeyon Henderson at pick 129 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
They are betting Dellinger proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
In pick 29 they get a rangy last line of defense. More want than need.
Pick64
Rnd2
Demetrius Knight Jr.
They did well to land Demetrius Knight Jr. in the 64th pick, just ahead of his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick79
Rnd3
Isaiah Bond
Taking Isaiah Bond in the Round 3 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick129
Rnd4
TreVeyon Henderson
The board fumbled TreVeyon Henderson all the way to Round 4, Pick 28, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick148
Rnd5
Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger at No. 148 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick162
Rnd5
Trey Zuhn III
A real head-scratcher, Trey Zuhn III in pick No. 162 is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick207
Rnd6
Garrett Dellinger
Garrett Dellinger at slot 207 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick238
Rnd7
Kyle Monangai
Kyle Monangai in the 238th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Pick250
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
You do not let a tight end like Luke Lachey reach slot 250 and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
