Powerful DRAFTING FOR THETexans

Draft Grade — Texans

FutureD
The Texans won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B. The war room fell hard for Julius Welschof, and it showed at pick 247: 108 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Edwards steal is the beam this whole class leans on. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In the 23rd pick they get a bendy edge with upside, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick24
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In pick 24 they get a double-digit-sack hope, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick58
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at slot 58 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick90
Rnd3
Shemar Turner
This one needs a full-page explanation: Shemar Turner in the 90th overall pick, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick123
Rnd4
Donovan Edwards
Circle this one: Donovan Edwards at No. 123 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick126
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Khyree Jackson in the Round 4 slot. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick163
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
Ty'Ron Hopper at the 163rd pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick239
Rnd7
Ja'Had Carter
Ja'Had Carter in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick247
Rnd7
Julius Welschof
They talked themselves into Julius Welschof at Round 7, Pick 27, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
