Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureD
Nobody dealt better than the Texans this weekend: B.

The Texans treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 154th overall pick on Ricky Pearsall a full 46 spots early. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The offensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Jer'Zhan Newton
In the 26th pick they get an anchor for the defensive front, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick27 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
In the 27th overall pick they get a premier pass rusher. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick49 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
They paid sticker price for Brian Thomas Jr. in slot 49, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick92 Rnd3 Will Shipley
Will Shipley at No. 92 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick117 Rnd4 Jaden Hicks
A conviction pick on Jaden Hicks at Round 4, Pick 17 that the board grades a round light. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick126 Rnd4 Payton Wilson
A big swing on Payton Wilson at pick No. 126, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick154 Rnd5 Ricky Pearsall
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ricky Pearsall in No. 154, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick234 Rnd7 Blake Watson
They reached into another round for Blake Watson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick238 Rnd7 Sam Hartman
A wild overpay on Sam Hartman in the 238th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
