Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Texans.

Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Texans never addressed edge rusher, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

The Coleman value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. If Lomu pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
In pick 27 they get a cornerstone up front, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Olaivavega Ioane
A straight-up fair deal on Olaivavega Ioane at pick No. 38, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick58 Rnd2 Jonah Coleman
They read the board right and Jonah Coleman was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 26. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick69 Rnd3 Domonique Orange
Domonique Orange at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick106 Rnd4 Chandler Rivers
A quiet steal in the 106th overall pick: Chandler Rivers for less than the market said. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick126 Rnd4 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren is a better player than the 126th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick165 Rnd5 Jaden Greathouse
Jaden Greathouse in slot 165 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick242 Rnd7 Desmond Reid
By-the-book stuff, Desmond Reid at No. 242 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick243 Rnd7 Amare Campbell
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Amare Campbell. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
