Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Texans.

The one they had to fix is still broken. The Texans left interior defensive lineman untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul. The bottom line is a respectable B.

Singleton has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The Banks value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Kenyon Sadiq
In No. 28 they get a red-zone target to build around, and a steal at that.
Pick38 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Caleb Banks at the 38th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick59 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Value with a capital V on Jake Slaughter in pick No. 59, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick69 Rnd3 Nicholas Singleton
A wild overpay on Nicholas Singleton in the 69th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick106 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in slot 106 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick120 Rnd4 Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge at Round 4, Pick 20 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick165 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Nwankpa at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick236 Rnd7 Rueben Owens II
They paid a round early for Rueben Owens II in pick 236, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick243 Rnd7 Jalil Farooq
Jalil Farooq at Round 7, Pick 27 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
