Draft Grade — Packers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Baker should have been long gone. The Packers pounced, and earned a B-.

The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Javon Baker, the No. 180 name on the board, sitting there at slot 216 like a gift left on the doorstep. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

They are betting Allen proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 JC Latham
In slot 25 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick41 Rnd2 T.J. Tampa
By-the-book stuff, T.J. Tampa at No. 41 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick57 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
They left a pile of value on the table to take Cooper Beebe this early at Round 2, Pick 25. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick88 Rnd3 Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks at the 88th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick91 Rnd3 Marist Liufau
Nothing to complain about; Marist Liufau went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick126 Rnd4 Braelon Allen
A real head-scratcher, Braelon Allen in the Round 4 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick168 Rnd5 Jordan Jefferson
Jordan Jefferson at the 168th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick203 Rnd6 Ethan Driskell
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 203, where Ethan Driskell graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick216 Rnd6 Javon Baker
Taking Javon Baker in Round 6, Pick 41 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick243 Rnd7 Mark Perry
A straight-up fair deal on Mark Perry at pick No. 243, value and slot in agreement. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick251 Rnd7 Jeremy James
No edge and no loss on Jeremy James in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
