Ottis DRAFTING FOR THECommanders
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Commanders: B-. There is a lot to like until you notice tight end is still a hole. The Commanders never got to the one that mattered most.
The Bennee value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Cook has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Carter Smith
In the 7th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick71
Rnd3
Braylon Staley
They liked Braylon Staley enough to skip the value, taking him in the 71st overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick145
Rnd5
Quay'sheed Scott
No edge and no loss on Quay'sheed Scott in No. 145; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick185
Rnd6
Jackson Bennee
Value with a capital V on Jackson Bennee in pick 185, a genuine coup. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick196
Rnd6
Johntay Cook
A premium they did not need to pay, Johntay Cook a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick223
Rnd7
Conner Weigman
They took Conner Weigman at par in Round 7, Pick 7, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
