Ottis DRAFTING FOR THEColts

Draft Grade — Colts

Bowen should have been long gone. The Colts pounced, and earned a B-. The rest of the league will want that one back. Peyton Bowen tumbling to the Colts in the 113th pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They will need Marsh to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick47
Rnd2
Nick Marsh
Nick Marsh at Round 2, Pick 15 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick78
Rnd3
LJ Martin
A big swing on LJ Martin at slot 78, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick113
Rnd4
Peyton Bowen
Peyton Bowen at the 113th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick154
Rnd5
Blake Frazier
Blake Frazier is a better player than the 154th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick216
Rnd6
Christian Alliegro
They barely believed it either: Christian Alliegro still on the board at the Round 6 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick230
Rnd7
Jackson Arnold
A straight-up fair deal on Jackson Arnold at pick 230, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick253
Rnd7
Trey Leckner
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trey Leckner. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
