DKDan DRAFTING FOR THEChargers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Chargers. The tape said wait; the Chargers did not. Cam Horsley went at Round 5, Pick 20, a good 58 picks before the board was ready.
On value alone, Tuten makes the weekend a net positive. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Colston Loveland
In the 22nd pick they get a security blanket over the middle. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick55
Rnd2
Josaiah Stewart
Josaiah Stewart at slot 55 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick86
Rnd3
Sai'vion Jones
Sai'vion Jones in Round 3, Pick 22 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick124
Rnd4
Savion Williams
Savion Williams in pick 124 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick159
Rnd5
Cam Horsley
Cam Horsley in the 159th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick177
Rnd5
Fadil Diggs
Fadil Diggs at pick No. 177 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick183
Rnd6
Alijah Huzzie
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Alijah Huzzie well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick201
Rnd6
Bhayshul Tuten
Somehow Bhayshul Tuten was still sitting there in the 201st pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick215
Rnd6
Karene Reid
Taking Karene Reid in No. 215 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick220
Rnd7
Zeek Biggers
A reach on Zeek Biggers in the 220th overall pick; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick253
Rnd7
LaJohntay Wester
Steal is underselling it; LaJohntay Wester at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
