Draft Grade — Packers
Overall B

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Packers and Chambers: B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Steele Chambers, the No. 199 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 255th pick. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Every board in the league had Hopper lower, and that gap is the story. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

They trusted the board more than the depth chart.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Joe Alt
In the 25th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick41 Rnd2 T.J. Tampa
They liked T.J. Tampa enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 2 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick58 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
A edge rusher of that caliber at slot 58 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick88 Rnd3 Calen Bullock
Fair-plus on Calen Bullock, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick91 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in pick 91 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick126 Rnd4 Isaac Guerendo
Isaac Guerendo at Round 4, Pick 26 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick169 Rnd5 Ty'Ron Hopper
They went early on Ty'Ron Hopper in pick No. 169, and the value did not follow. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick202 Rnd6 Drake Nugent
A reach for Drake Nugent in the 202nd pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick219 Rnd6 Evan Williams
A clean, defensible pick in slot 219 with a little surplus value in Evan Williams. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick245 Rnd7 Justin Rogers
Justin Rogers at pick 245 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick255 Rnd7 Steele Chambers
Steele Chambers in Round 7, Pick 35 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
