Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall D+
ValueB- NeedA- TradesF FutureD
The Steelers left with their quarterback, and a D+ to match.

Somebody took the Steelers to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. Put together, it is a D+.

Whatever Ty Simpson becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want. Smith has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

Lew falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and safety is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Ty Simpson
In pick 4 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick52 Rnd2 Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams at slot 52 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick77 Rnd3 Connor Lew
The board fumbled Connor Lew all the way to No. 77, and they scooped it up. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick120 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and D'Angelo Ponds at the Round 4 slot is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick159 Rnd5 Kyle Louis
Good price on Kyle Louis in pick No. 159, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick214 Rnd6 James Smith
A reach for James Smith in the 214th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick224 Rnd7 Barion Brown
They paid sticker price for Barion Brown in Round 7, Pick 8, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
