Draft Grade — Texans

FutureD
The Texans fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B. The Texans looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Ty'Ron Hopper at pick No. 126 regardless, 51 picks early. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Rakestraw Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Byron Murphy II
In the Round 1 slot they get a load in the middle. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick24
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In the 24th overall pick they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick59
Rnd2
Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
You do not let a cornerback like Ennis Rakestraw Jr. reach pick No. 59 and blink. They did not. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick86
Rnd3
Patrick Paul
Taking Patrick Paul in pick 86 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick87
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Xavier Legette in the 87th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick122
Rnd4
Renardo Green
Renardo Green is a better player than No. 122 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick126
Rnd4
Ty'Ron Hopper
A real head-scratcher, Ty'Ron Hopper in the 126th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick224
Rnd7
Myles Murphy
A reasonable price with a little left over, Myles Murphy in pick No. 224. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick238
Rnd7
Tyler Owens
Tyler Owens at the Round 7 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick247
Rnd7
Blake Watson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Blake Watson well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
