Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Grand theft in No. 214: the 49ers steal McCaffrey and grade out a B-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Luke McCaffrey, the No. 164 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 214. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. The Beebe pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Jordan Morgan
In the 31st overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in Round 2, Pick 31 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick94 Rnd3 DJ James
A quiet steal in the Round 3 slot: DJ James for less than the market said. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick98 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
A reasonable price with a little left over, Brenden Rice in pick No. 98. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick125 Rnd4 McKinnley Jackson
A clean, defensible pick in slot 125 with a little surplus value in McKinnley Jackson. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick132 Rnd4 Beaux Limmer
A tidy bit of business in the 132nd pick, where Beaux Limmer graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick176 Rnd6 Sione Vaki
The board had Sione Vaki higher than No. 176, and the safety fell to them anyway. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick209 Rnd6 Garret Greenfield
They jumped the gun on Garret Greenfield, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick214 Rnd6 Luke McCaffrey
Somehow Luke McCaffrey was still sitting there in slot 214, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick215 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs in pick 215 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick249 Rnd7 Tatum Bethune
Tatum Bethune in the 249th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
