Draft Grade — Commanders

The Commanders robbed the room for Judkins. Final grade: B-.

Somebody in No. 147 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Quinshon Judkins, the No. 73 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

If Wedig pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.

They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Harold Fannin Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 26 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick59 Rnd2 Donovan Ezeiruaku
They paid up for Donovan Ezeiruaku at the 59th pick when waiting would have done the job. It fills a real need, too.
Pick80 Rnd3 Tai Felton
Tai Felton at pick 80 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick147 Rnd5 Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins in the 147th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick202 Rnd6 Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier in slot 202 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick236 Rnd7 Jonah Monheim
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 236 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick244 Rnd7 Trey Wedig
Trey Wedig in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
