FutureA+
More right than wrong for the Broncos, and a B to prove it. The Broncos bet big and early on McKade Mettauer, 102 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
That Hart pick is the receipt they will wave around later. That linebacker hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.
Pick Analysis
Pick50
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
Good price on Chris Braswell in the 50th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick72
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany in No. 72 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick78
Rnd3
Kingsley Suamataia
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Kingsley Suamataia in pick No. 78, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick114
Rnd4
Brenden Rice
No drama and no debate, Brenden Rice went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 14. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick129
Rnd4
Cam Hart
Cam Hart at the 129th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick151
Rnd5
Darius Robinson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Darius Robinson well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick235
Rnd7
Drake Nugent
They left a pile of value on the table to take Drake Nugent this early at slot 235. It fills a real need, too.
Pick239
Rnd7
McKade Mettauer
A wild overpay on McKade Mettauer in Round 7, Pick 19, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick242
Rnd7
Justin Eboigbe
Justin Eboigbe at the 242nd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
