Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB- TradesB+ FutureB-
The Vikings did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B.

The war room fell hard for Miles Frazier, and it showed at pick No. 233: 30 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. The bottom line is a respectable B.

They banked enough surplus on Simpson to cover a lot of smaller sins. It is not that Smith is a bad player; it is that the Vikings had louder needs to answer first.

That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Kool-Aid McKinstry
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value.
Pick44 Rnd2 Troy Franklin
A clean, defensible pick in the 44th overall pick with a little surplus value in Troy Franklin. It fills a real need, too.
Pick68 Rnd3 Maason Smith
A surprising call. With safety and interior defensive lineman still to address, they spent slot 68 on Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE they were not short of.
Pick71 Rnd3 Kris Jenkins
Kris Jenkins at pick 71 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick112 Rnd4 Junior Colson
They jumped the gun on Junior Colson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick127 Rnd4 Cade Stover
Cade Stover at No. 127 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
Pick149 Rnd5 Jordan Travis
They paid a round early for Jordan Travis in slot 149, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick162 Rnd5 Ajani Cornelius
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ajani Cornelius in the 162nd pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick165 Rnd5 Devin Neal
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Devin Neal well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick179 Rnd6 Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson at the 179th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick226 Rnd7 Walter Rouse
A reach for Walter Rouse in the Round 7 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick233 Rnd7 Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier at pick 233 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
