Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Chargers kept it disciplined and banked a B. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Chargers reached some 21 spots for Kyle Kennard, and value like that does not grow back. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Skattebo.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a weapon on the perimeter, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick55
Rnd2
Kyle Kennard
Kyle Kennard at No. 55 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick86
Rnd3
Chris Paul Jr.
Chris Paul Jr. at slot 86 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick125
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
The board had Cam Skattebo higher than the 125th pick, and the running back fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Pick158
Rnd5
Mitchell Evans
Mitchell Evans slipping to the 158th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick181
Rnd6
Ollie Gordon II
A tidy little value on Ollie Gordon II in pick 181, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
Pick199
Rnd6
Nazir Stackhouse
Nazir Stackhouse at the Round 6 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick209
Rnd6
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in pick No. 209 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick214
Rnd6
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
A tidy bit of business in pick 214, where Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick256
Rnd7
Zeek Biggers
They did well to land Zeek Biggers in No. 256, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
