Draft Grade — Bills
Overall
B
ValueA-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Skattebo should have been long gone. The Bills pounced, and earned a B. You could see the war room lean forward. Cam Skattebo at the Round 5 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The cost of the Prather reach is exactly the players who went right after him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. On the needs board they went 6 of 9, with linebacker the one that mattered most.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Nick Emmanwori at the 30th pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick56
Rnd2
Tyleik Williams
They did well to land Tyleik Williams in pick No. 56, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick62
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at Round 2, Pick 30 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick107
Rnd4
Azareye'h Thomas
The board had Azareye'h Thomas higher than the Round 4 slot, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick130
Rnd4
Tory Horton
You do not let a wide receiver like Tory Horton reach No. 130 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick169
Rnd5
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in the 169th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick172
Rnd5
Joshua Gray
A reasonable price with a little left over, Joshua Gray in pick 172. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick175
Rnd5
Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins at slot 175 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick202
Rnd6
Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at pick No. 202 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick204
Rnd6
Kaden Prather
Kaden Prather at the 204th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
