The Colts cashed the board's mistake on Hardy: B+. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Colts came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The veteran additions, Bobby Wagner chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In the 16th overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside. Need was not the driver here.
Pick46
Rnd2
Ladd McConkey
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ladd McConkey in pick No. 46. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick94
Rnd3
Gabriel Murphy
Gabriel Murphy is a better player than No. 94 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick109
Rnd4
Ray Davis
Ray Davis in Round 4, Pick 9 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick117
Rnd4
Nelson Ceaser
They did well to land Nelson Ceaser in slot 117, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick153
Rnd5
Malik Mustapha
The board had Malik Mustapha higher than the Round 5 slot, and the safety fell to them anyway. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick193
Rnd6
Christian Jones
Fair-plus on Christian Jones, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick235
Rnd7
Daequan Hardy
The board fumbled Daequan Hardy all the way to pick No. 235, and they scooped it up. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
