FutureA-
Nobody dealt better than the Vikings this weekend: B+. The Vikings ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through safety. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Jones. The cost of the Tupuola-Fetui reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In Round 1, Pick 16 they get a lockdown presence outside. Need was not the driver here.
Pick47
Rnd2
J.J. McCarthy
J.J. McCarthy at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick78
Rnd3
Trey Benson
Trey Benson in slot 78 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick108
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
No drama and no debate, Tommy Eichenberg went about where he belonged in pick 108. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick128
Rnd4
Shemar Turner
A reach for Shemar Turner in the 128th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick148
Rnd5
Moose Muhammad III
They paid sticker price for Moose Muhammad III in pick No. 148, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick163
Rnd5
LaDarius Henderson
They took LaDarius Henderson at par in No. 163, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick164
Rnd5
Zion Tupuola-Fetui
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at the 164th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick179
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
Gabe Hall at the Round 6 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick230
Rnd7
Sheridan Jones
The board had Sheridan Jones higher than the 230th overall pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick236
Rnd7
Erick All
The board had cheaper options than Erick All at pick No. 236, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
