Draft Grade — Colts
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB- TradesA- FutureA
The Colts let Simon fall and pounced. Final grade: B+.

You could see the war room lean forward. Cody Simon at Round 6, Pick 1 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.

The Parr pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. With wide receiver, quarterback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Nick Emmanwori
In the 30th pick they get a centerfielder for the defense, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Pick45 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
They did well to land Jihaad Campbell in Round 2, Pick 13, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick80 Rnd3 Gunnar Helm
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Gunnar Helm in the Round 3 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick108 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Malachi Moore at safety with wide receiver, quarterback and other spots open.
Pick116 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
The board had Cam Skattebo higher than pick No. 116, and the running back fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick152 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, O'Donnell Fortune in pick 152, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick179 Rnd6 Cody Simon
Cody Simon at slot 179 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick191 Rnd6 Dorian Strong
They let Dorian Strong come to them and pounced at No. 191. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick234 Rnd7 Logan Parr
A big swing on Logan Parr at the 234th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
