The Bengals cashed the board's mistake on Smith-Wade: B.

Call it larceny. Chau Smith-Wade sat on the board until pick 196, and the Bengals did not need to be asked twice. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

In slot 18 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick49 Rnd2 Troy Fautanu
Taking Troy Fautanu in No. 49 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick80 Rnd3 Braden Fiske
They paid sticker price for Braden Fiske in pick 80, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick116 Rnd4 Jamari Thrash
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 4, Pick 16 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick148 Rnd5 Dallin Holker
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dallin Holker. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.

Nothing to complain about; Cody Schrader went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The roster fit checks out.

Chau Smith-Wade in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.

Jawhar Jordan in the 235th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick252 Rnd7 Daequan Hardy
They will replay Daequan Hardy at pick 252 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
