FutureB+
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Bears. The rest of the league had time to spare on Kyren Lacy; the Bears did not wait, grabbing him 56 spots ahead at pick 235.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In the 10th overall pick they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
Steal is underselling it; Walter Nolen at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick72
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
Good price on Quinshon Judkins in Round 3, Pick 8, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick97
Rnd3
Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter at No. 97 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick140
Rnd5
Tez Johnson
Taking Tez Johnson in slot 140 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick149
Rnd5
Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom at pick No. 149 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick197
Rnd6
Jake Briningstool
Jake Briningstool in pick No. 197 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick235
Rnd7
Kyren Lacy
Kyren Lacy in No. 235 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick242
Rnd7
Cooper Mays
They reached into another round for Cooper Mays, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
