Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Bears: B-. The Bears treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending slot 116 on Kyren Lacy a full 53 spots early. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Barron. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. It is not that Moore is a bad player; it is that the Bears had louder needs to answer first.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In pick 20 they get a disruptive interior force, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33
Rnd2
Landon Jackson
No drama and no debate, Landon Jackson went about where he belonged in slot 33. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick52
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tate Ratledge. It fills a real need, too.
Pick84
Rnd3
Jahdae Barron
Jahdae Barron at pick No. 84 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick110
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Malachi Moore while clear needs at running back and quarterback sat open.
Pick116
Rnd4
Kyren Lacy
Kyren Lacy at the 116th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick153
Rnd5
Bryce Foster
Bryce Foster at the 153rd pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick180
Rnd6
Brant Kuithe
Brant Kuithe in the Round 6 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick182
Rnd6
Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander at the 182nd overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick217
Rnd7
Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser in slot 217 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
