Slasky80 DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Bears: B-. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Bears took Barion Brown a full 25 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The Wilson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Rueben Bain Jr.
In No. 16 they get a premier pass rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick48
Rnd2
Michael Taaffe
They did well to land Michael Taaffe in Round 2, Pick 16, just ahead of his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick80
Rnd3
Kaytron Allen
They went early on Kaytron Allen in slot 80, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick126
Rnd4
Raylen Wilson
Raylen Wilson in pick No. 126 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick155
Rnd5
Barion Brown
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Barion Brown. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick194
Rnd6
Hykeem Williams
Hykeem Williams in pick 194 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick229
Rnd7
Rueben Owens
The board had cheaper options than Rueben Owens at slot 229, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick248
Rnd7
Randon Fontenette
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Randon Fontenette. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
