slasky80 DRAFTING FOR THEBears

Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B

FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Bears: B. The Bears went off the board in a big way for Bryce Foster, 72 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
With running back and quarterback unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
James Pearce Jr.
A quiet steal in Round 1, Pick 9: James Pearce Jr. for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick33
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Booker at the 33rd pick, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick42
Rnd2
Xavier Nwankpa
A reach on Xavier Nwankpa in the Round 2 slot; the board had better options right there. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick73
Rnd3
Bryce Foster
Value said wait; Bryce Foster in pick No. 73 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick105
Rnd4
Bear Alexander
This one needs a full-page explanation: Bear Alexander in slot 105, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick106
Rnd4
Sonny Styles
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Sonny Styles at safety with running back and quarterback open.
Pick137
Rnd5
Caden Prieskorn
They liked Caden Prieskorn enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 5, Pick 9. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick169
Rnd6
Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander in pick 169 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick170
Rnd6
Bru McCoy
Bru McCoy in No. 170 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick189
Rnd6
Shawn Murphy
Shawn Murphy at slot 189 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
