sammytrav DRAFTING FOR THESteelers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedC+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Steelers checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Steelers would have aced it. Jaden Crumedy at No. 178 is 47 spots clear of where he belonged.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They will answer for taking offensive lineman early while quarterback, safety and other spots went begging. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
JC Latham
In slot 20 they get a cornerstone up front. More want than need.
Pick51
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Zach Frazier in pick 51 leaves quarterback, safety and other spots for later.
Pick84
Rnd3
Malik Washington
A conviction pick on Malik Washington at the 84th pick that the board grades a round light. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick98
Rnd3
Christian Jones
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 3, Pick 35 on Christian Jones with quarterback, safety and other spots unsolved.
Pick119
Rnd4
Kris Abrams-Draine
Kris Abrams-Draine at No. 119 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick178
Rnd6
Jaden Crumedy
Value said wait; Jaden Crumedy in the 178th overall pick says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick195
Rnd6
M.J. Devonshire
Nothing to complain about; M.J. Devonshire went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
