FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Saints for Castro: B+. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Saints came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Castro. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Reaching for Shough left real value on the table behind him.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In the 14th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Emeka Egbuka at slot 40 is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick45
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
You do not let a linebacker like Jalon Walker reach pick No. 45 and blink. They did not. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick71
Rnd3
Jalen Royals
They did well to land Jalen Royals in the 71st pick, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick93
Rnd3
Darien Porter
Value with a capital V on Darien Porter in No. 93, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick112
Rnd4
Sebastian Castro
Sebastian Castro at pick 112 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick117
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cam Skattebo in No. 117. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick131
Rnd4
Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough at the Round 4 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick184
Rnd6
Quincy Riley
A clean, defensible pick in Round 6, Pick 8 with a little surplus value in Quincy Riley. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick232
Rnd7
Desmond Watson
They took Desmond Watson at par in the 232nd pick, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick248
Rnd7
Zeek Biggers
Zeek Biggers at slot 248 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick254
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Teddye Buchanan. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
