FutureB-
The Steelers kept it disciplined and banked a B-. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Steelers reached some 36 spots for Savion Williams, and value like that does not grow back. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Getting Cornelius where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
The trade work was a quiet net positive. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In No. 30 they get a run-stuffing presence up front, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick56
Rnd2
Savion Williams
They reached a country mile for Savion Williams at the 56th overall pick, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick83
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
They liked Darius Alexander enough to skip the value, taking him in the 83rd pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick123
Rnd4
Bhayshul Tuten
Bhayshul Tuten at the Round 4 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick156
Rnd5
Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed at pick No. 156 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick185
Rnd6
Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius slipping to Round 6, Pick 9 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick229
Rnd7
Phil Mafah
Phil Mafah at slot 229 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A need, and now a little less of one.
