Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall

FutureB-
Williams should have been long gone. The Steelers pounced, and earned a B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Steelers were there to profit. James Williams, the No. 124 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 6 slot. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Reaching for Crumedy left real value on the table behind him. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
With quarterback, safety and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on offensive lineman is the choice that costs them. Job largely done: interior defensive lineman settled and 4 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
JC Latham
A tidy little value on JC Latham in Round 1, Pick 20, a step better than break-even. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick51
Rnd2
Sedrick Van Pran
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went offensive lineman with Sedrick Van Pran while clear needs at quarterback, safety and other spots sat open.
Pick84
Rnd3
Mekhi Wingo
They talked themselves into Mekhi Wingo at the Round 3 slot, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick98
Rnd3
Cam Hart
No drama and no debate, Cam Hart went about where he belonged in slot 98. The roster fit checks out.
Pick119
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ainias Smith. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick178
Rnd6
James Williams
James Williams at No. 178 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick195
Rnd6
Jaden Crumedy
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaden Crumedy well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
