Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Cowboys cashed the board's mistake on Warren: B.

Thirty-one other rooms let Tyler Warren slide, and the Cowboys were the ones holding the card at the 44th pick. Highway robbery. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Thornton Jr. has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In pick No. 12 they get an every-down engine for the run game at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick44 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
You do not let a tight end like Tyler Warren reach the 44th overall pick and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick76 Rnd3 Demetrius Knight Jr.
A tidy bit of business in pick 76, where Demetrius Knight Jr. graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick149 Rnd5 Logan Brown
Logan Brown in slot 149 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick171 Rnd5 Tommi Hill
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tommi Hill at the 171st pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick174 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A premium they did not need to pay, Dont'e Thornton Jr. a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick204 Rnd6 Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed slid further than he should have, and Round 6, Pick 28 is lovely value for the safety. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick211 Rnd6 Joshua Gray
Joshua Gray at the Round 6 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick239 Rnd7 Jermari Harris
A slide stopped in slot 239, with Jermari Harris worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick247 Rnd7 Ty Hamilton
Ty Hamilton at Round 7, Pick 31 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
