Vicious DRAFTING FOR THEBrowns
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Browns answered their biggest question with Sanders. Grade: B-. The Browns treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 33rd overall pick on Jalen Milroe a full 61 spots early. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Whatever Shedeur Sanders becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
The Harvey pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In slot 2 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33
Rnd2
Jalen Milroe
A real head-scratcher, Jalen Milroe in the Round 2 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick67
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
A slide stopped in pick 67, with TreVeyon Henderson worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick94
Rnd3
Savion Williams
Savion Williams at No. 94 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick104
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. at Round 4, Pick 2 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick179
Rnd6
RJ Harvey
The board had RJ Harvey higher than the 179th overall pick, and the running back fell to them anyway. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick192
Rnd6
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson in the 192nd pick is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick200
Rnd6
Jay Higgins
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jay Higgins. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick216
Rnd6
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa in pick 216 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick255
Rnd7
Jaylin Smith
They paid sticker price for Jaylin Smith in Round 7, Pick 39, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
