Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Damien Martinez got past him. The Dolphins do not have to explain a thing at slot 224.

Conner has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The Ransom pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, tight end and other spots still on the board.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

In No. 17 they get protection for the quarterback, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.

You do not let a safety like Nick Emmanwori reach the 48th pick and blink. They did not. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick49 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Alfred Collins. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick98 Rnd3 Jack Bech
They will replay Jack Bech at Round 3, Pick 34 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick116 Rnd4 Lathan Ransom
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Lathan Ransom while clear needs at edge rusher, tight end and other spots sat open.
Pick135 Rnd4 Tyler Shough
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Shough at slot 135 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick150 Rnd5 Cobee Bryant
A cornerback of that caliber at the 150th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.

Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jackson Slater at pick 155. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
