Vicious DRAFTING FOR THEBrowns
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Sanders is the Browns' new face under center. Grade: B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Browns were there to profit. Lathan Ransom, the No. 105 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 179.
Whatever Shedeur Sanders becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In the 2nd overall pick they get a franchise quarterback. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33
Rnd2
Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland is a better player than pick 33 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick67
Rnd3
Quinshon Judkins
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Quinshon Judkins. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick94
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
They barely believed it either: Donovan Jackson still on the board at the Round 3 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick104
Rnd4
Jaylin Noel
The board had Jaylin Noel higher than No. 104, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick179
Rnd6
Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom at pick No. 179 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
Pick192
Rnd6
Damien Martinez
Damien Martinez in Round 6, Pick 16 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick200
Rnd6
O'Donnell Fortune
The board fumbled O'Donnell Fortune all the way to pick 200, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick216
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
Nice patience on Joshua Gray, who had no business lasting to the 216th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick255
Rnd7
Jamon Dumas-Johnson
They robbed the room for Jamon Dumas-Johnson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
