Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall C+
ValueB+ NeedB TradesF FutureB+
The Commanders got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C+.

The Commanders bet big and early on Barryn Sorrell, 65 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.

They banked enough surplus on Tuten to cover a lot of smaller sins. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 Mykel Williams
Mykel Williams is a better player than Round 1, Pick 29 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick79 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jayden Higgins at pick No. 79. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick94 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson in the 94th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick140 Rnd5 Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander slid further than he should have, and the 140th pick is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick165 Rnd5 Nohl Williams
They went early on Nohl Williams in slot 165, and the value did not follow. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick179 Rnd6 Raheim Sanders
Circle this one: Raheim Sanders at No. 179 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick207 Rnd6 Bhayshul Tuten
Bhayshul Tuten at Round 6, Pick 29 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick238 Rnd7 Jonas Sanker
They will replay Jonas Sanker at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick250 Rnd7 Barryn Sorrell
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Barryn Sorrell well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
