Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB+
The Commanders turned the phones into found money: B+.

The tape said wait; the Commanders did not. Barryn Sorrell went at pick 250, a good 65 picks before the board was ready.

Higgins falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick61 Rnd2 Aireontae Ersery
They read the board right and Aireontae Ersery was the payoff at pick 61. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick79 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jayden Higgins in the 79th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick94 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson in the 94th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick130 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 4 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick149 Rnd5 Emery Jones Jr.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Emery Jones Jr. in No. 149, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick207 Rnd6 Nohl Williams
You do not let a cornerback like Nohl Williams reach pick No. 207 and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick220 Rnd7 Jonas Sanker
Jonas Sanker is a better player than the 220th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick236 Rnd7 Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins in pick No. 236 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick238 Rnd7 Miles Frazier
No edge and no loss on Miles Frazier in slot 238; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick250 Rnd7 Barryn Sorrell
This one needs a full-page explanation: Barryn Sorrell in No. 250, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
Pick253 Rnd7 Thor Griffith
They talked themselves into Thor Griffith at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
