Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall C
ValueB+ NeedB TradesF FutureB
The Commanders got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Thor Griffith, 47 picks early at Round 7, Pick 32. A weekend of give and take that grades a C.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Jones Jr.. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

If Jalon Walker and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick40 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker is a better player than Round 2, Pick 8 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick61 Rnd2 Aireontae Ersery
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Aireontae Ersery at the Round 2 slot is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick79 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
They let Jayden Higgins come to them and pounced at the 79th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick94 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba in No. 94 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick165 Rnd5 Emery Jones Jr.
Emery Jones Jr. in slot 165 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick181 Rnd6 Bhayshul Tuten
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Bhayshul Tuten in the 181st pick, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick194 Rnd6 Jack Nelson
Taking Jack Nelson in pick No. 194 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick202 Rnd6 DJ Giddens
DJ Giddens in the 202nd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick207 Rnd6 Nohl Williams
You do not let a cornerback like Nohl Williams reach No. 207 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick216 Rnd6 Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II at the Round 6 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick238 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
Nothing to complain about; Teddye Buchanan went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick250 Rnd7 Thor Griffith
Thor Griffith at slot 250 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
