Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall

FutureB+
The phones sank the Commanders this weekend: C. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Commanders reached some 76 spots for Barryn Sorrell, and value like that does not grow back. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C.
Landing Martinez that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Hit on Nick Emmanwori and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick40
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori at Round 2, Pick 8 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick68
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins at pick No. 68 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick94
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick107
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
They paid sticker price for Jared Wilson in the 107th pick, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick109
Rnd4
Tyler Baron
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tyler Baron. It fills a real need, too.
Pick130
Rnd4
Darius Alexander
A reasonable price with a little left over, Darius Alexander in the 130th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick146
Rnd5
Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson in Round 5, Pick 7 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick168
Rnd5
Logan Brown
Circle this one: Logan Brown at pick No. 168 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick181
Rnd6
Nohl Williams
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 6 slot with a little surplus value in Nohl Williams. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick194
Rnd6
Bhayshul Tuten
Bhayshul Tuten in the 194th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick202
Rnd6
Oronde Gadsden II
The board fumbled Oronde Gadsden II all the way to slot 202, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick207
Rnd6
Damien Martinez
They will replay Damien Martinez at No. 207 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick216
Rnd6
Jordan Hancock
They read the board right and Jordan Hancock was the payoff at pick 216. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick238
Rnd7
Barryn Sorrell
A big swing on Barryn Sorrell at the 238th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick250
Rnd7
Thor Griffith
A real head-scratcher, Thor Griffith in the 250th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
