Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
B
ValueA-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
McNeil-Warren should have been long gone. The Chiefs pounced, and earned a B. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, the No. 51 name on the board, stolen at the 74th pick.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Tight end was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In the 9th overall pick they get a centerpiece for the ground game. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq at pick 40 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick74
Rnd3
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Circle this one: Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at slot 74 is a fall that decides a draft. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick109
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
They did well to land Tacario Davis in No. 109, just ahead of his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick146
Rnd5
Hezekiah Masses
They will replay Hezekiah Masses at the 146th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick176
Rnd5
Kaleb Proctor
Kaleb Proctor at Round 5, Pick 38 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
