Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesD+ FutureA
The Texans did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

Nobody else had Zxavian Harris anywhere near the 128th pick. The Texans did, by 92 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

That Ioane pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick38 Rnd2 Olaivavega Ioane
They read the board right and Olaivavega Ioane was the payoff at slot 38. It fills a real need, too.
Pick59 Rnd2 Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price at No. 59 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick69 Rnd3 Keionte Scott
A straight-up fair deal on Keionte Scott at the 69th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick106 Rnd4 Michael Trigg
A reach for Michael Trigg in the Round 4 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick128 Rnd4 Zxavian Harris
This one needs a full-page explanation: Zxavian Harris in pick 128, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick143 Rnd5 Beau Stephens
They took Beau Stephens at par in pick No. 143, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick165 Rnd5 Justin Jefferson
Justin Jefferson at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick168 Rnd5 Pat Coogan
Pat Coogan at slot 168 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick243 Rnd7 Caleb Douglas
They talked themselves into Caleb Douglas at pick 243, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick244 Rnd7 Haynes King
Haynes King at the 244th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick255 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Trey Zuhn III at pick No. 255 is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
