Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
The Commanders won the night they stopped Gordon II from sliding. Grade: B+.

You build a draft on nights like this. Ollie Gordon II had no business being available in Round 7, Pick 20, and the Commanders did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Crenshaw-Dickson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick40 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
The board fumbled Tyler Warren all the way to slot 40, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick79 Rnd3 Tre Harris
Steal is underselling it; Tre Harris at No. 79 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick93 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins in the 93rd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick95 Rnd3 Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild at pick 95 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick111 Rnd4 Jordan Phillips
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Phillips. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick118 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
They will replay Malachi Moore at the 118th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick132 Rnd4 Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick133 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jared Wilson in pick No. 133, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick148 Rnd5 Emery Jones Jr.
Emery Jones Jr. at the Round 5 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick154 Rnd5 Lathan Ransom
A safety of that caliber at pick No. 154 is the definition of value, full stop. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick165 Rnd5 Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. at slot 165 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick198 Rnd6 Raheim Sanders
Circle this one: Raheim Sanders at the 198th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Pick207 Rnd6 Jordan Hancock
They took Jordan Hancock at par in the 207th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick227 Rnd7 Theo Wease Jr.
Theo Wease Jr. at Round 7, Pick 9 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick230 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
By-the-book stuff, Teddye Buchanan at pick 230 squarely in line with his ranking. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick238 Rnd7 Ollie Gordon II
They barely believed it either: Ollie Gordon II still on the board at No. 238. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick250 Rnd7 Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
Value said wait; Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson in pick No. 250 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick256 Rnd7 Nohl Williams
This one needs a full-page explanation: Nohl Williams in Round 7, Pick 38, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
