Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B-
ValueC- NeedB TradesD+ FutureA
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Browns: B-.

The Browns torched the value chart for Cole Payton, taking him 75 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.

They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.

Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Monroe Freeling
In pick 22 they get protection for the quarterback, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick24 Rnd1 Chris Brazzell II
In slot 24 they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
They paid sticker price for Emmanuel Pregnon in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick55 Rnd2 Emmett Johnson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Emmett Johnson. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick70 Rnd3 Derrick Moore
Value said wait; Derrick Moore in pick No. 70 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick86 Rnd3 Devin Moore
Fair-plus on Devin Moore, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick107 Rnd4 Tanner Koziol
Tanner Koziol in the 107th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick139 Rnd5 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Ar'maj Reed-Adams at pick No. 139 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick144 Rnd5 Cole Payton
A real head-scratcher, Cole Payton in slot 144 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick147 Rnd5 Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson in Round 5, Pick 9 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick204 Rnd6 Zxavian Harris
By-the-book stuff, Zxavian Harris at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick248 Rnd7 Xavian Sorey Jr.
Xavian Sorey Jr. at the 248th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
