FutureB-
The Bengals won the night they stopped Amegadjie from sliding. Grade: D. The phones were a trap the Bengals kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
Landing Amegadjie that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The cost of the Legette reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
Pick27
Rnd1
Xavier Legette
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a No. 1 receiver, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick49
Rnd2
Kamren Kinchens
Value with a capital V on Kamren Kinchens in slot 49, a genuine coup. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick80
Rnd3
Bralen Trice
They barely believed it either: Bralen Trice still on the board at No. 80. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick103
Rnd4
Kiran Amegadjie
Kiran Amegadjie in the 103rd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick115
Rnd4
Max Melton
A tidy little value on Max Melton in the 115th overall pick, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick151
Rnd5
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson in the 151st pick is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick173
Rnd5
Edefuan Ulofoshio
They read the board right and Edefuan Ulofoshio was the payoff at pick No. 173. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick196
Rnd6
Braelon Allen
They will replay Braelon Allen at No. 196 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick238
Rnd7
Brevyn Spann-Ford
A quiet steal in slot 238: Brevyn Spann-Ford for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick254
Rnd7
Nathaniel Watson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Nathaniel Watson at Round 7, Pick 34 is the proof. It fills a real need, too.
