Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
A
ValueA-
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureA+
The Commanders worked the phones like thieves and earned a A. The tape said wait; the Commanders did not. J.J. Weaver went at pick 207, a good 141 picks before the board was ready. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A to show for it.
The Borregales value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
In the end it comes back to Tyler Warren, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick49
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren at Round 2, Pick 17 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick67
Rnd3
Jihaad Campbell
Steal is underselling it; Jihaad Campbell at the Round 3 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick74
Rnd3
Tre Harris
They robbed the room for Tre Harris here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick79
Rnd3
Omarion Hampton
They barely believed it either: Omarion Hampton still on the board at the 79th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick95
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
By-the-book stuff, Ozzy Trapilo at the 95th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick102
Rnd4
Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild is a better player than pick 102 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick118
Rnd4
Savion Williams
Somehow Savion Williams was still sitting there in the 118th pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick146
Rnd5
Danny Stutsman
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Danny Stutsman in the 146th overall pick, plain and simple. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick148
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
A cornerback of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 9 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick154
Rnd5
Dorian Strong
A real head-scratcher, Dorian Strong in pick No. 154 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick157
Rnd5
Dylan Sampson
Dylan Sampson in No. 157 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Pick188
Rnd6
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. at pick 188 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick207
Rnd6
J.J. Weaver
J.J. Weaver in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick216
Rnd6
Jordan Hancock
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jordan Hancock at slot 216 is the proof. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick230
Rnd7
Jonas Sanker
You do not let a safety like Jonas Sanker reach pick 230 and blink. They did not. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick238
Rnd7
Jalen Travis
They reached a country mile for Jalen Travis at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick250
Rnd7
Andres Borregales
They will replay Andres Borregales at No. 250 for years; that is how good the value is. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
