FutureA
A passer of the future in Maye, and a D, for the Bears. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bears did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
The whole projection now runs through Drake Maye; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. That Robinson pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Drake Maye
They paid sticker price for Drake Maye in Round 1, Pick 3, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick9
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
In the 9th pick they get a red-zone target to build around. Need was not the driver here.
Pick34
Rnd2
Kamren Kinchens
By-the-book stuff, Kamren Kinchens at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick44
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson slid further than he should have, and slot 44 is lovely value for the edge rusher. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick75
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson at pick No. 75 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick110
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
Fair-plus on Dominick Puni, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick122
Rnd4
DJ James
DJ James is a better player than pick 122 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick146
Rnd5
Beaux Limmer
No drama and no debate, Beaux Limmer went about where he belonged in No. 146. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
