Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureC+
The Bears won the night they stopped Paul Jr. from sliding. Grade: B+. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Chris Paul Jr. got past him. The Bears do not have to explain a thing at the Round 6 slot. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
Williams has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In the 20th pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Booker at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick41
Rnd2
Kaleb Johnson
No edge and no loss on Kaleb Johnson in Round 2, Pick 9; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick49
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
A tight end of that caliber at the 49th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick72
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
They did well to land Andrew Mukuba in pick 72, just ahead of his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick147
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 147 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick193
Rnd6
Chris Paul Jr.
Taking Chris Paul Jr. in No. 193 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick233
Rnd7
Jared Wilson
A quiet steal in slot 233: Jared Wilson for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick240
Rnd7
Gentry Williams
Gentry Williams at the 240th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
